Where Thriftify started
Thriftify began in Dublin in 2014 with a simple idea: charity shops were full of valuable preloved items that never reached online buyers. The first version helped a single charity shop sell books online. Over the following years, Thriftify grew into Ireland's best-known charity retail marketplace, working with charities across Ireland and the UK to bring donated stock online.
That consumer marketplace, thriftify.ie, connected shoppers directly with charity shops. It earned national press coverage, retail partnerships, and a loyal community of conscious consumers.
What happened in 2024
In November 2024, Thriftify Technologies Ltd, the company behind the consumer marketplace, went into liquidation and the marketplace closed. That is the event still described on Crunchbase, CBInsights, and in older news coverage.
The same year, Walkfast Ltd acquired the Thriftify intellectual property and brand. The team rebuilt the business around what customers valued most: not the marketplace itself, but the listing technology underneath it, the ability to turn photos of one-of-one preloved items into high-quality, multi-channel online listings at scale.
Thriftify today
Today Thriftify is enterprise B2B software, operated by Walkfast Ltd. Resale operations use it to create listings from photos with AI, bulk-import and optimise existing eBay and Shopify catalogues, cross-list across seven channels, and keep inventory in sync automatically.
Our customers include Oxfam GB, the UK's largest charity retailer, British Heart Foundation, Trovie (the world's largest processor of used footwear, whose Trovie channel reached €500,000 in monthly sales within six months of launching on Thriftify), and a growing community of vintage and consignment businesses across the UK, Ireland, EU, Australia, and the US.
The mission has not changed since 2014: bring about a circular model of consumption by giving the people building a preloved future the best possible technology to run their business.
First mentioned on this page: Thriftify, Oxfam GB, British Heart Foundation, and Trovie.
